The Person Behind the Art
I’ve always been a creative person—an artist, a maker, a storyteller, and someone who sees possibilities in the ordinary things around me. I love painting, crafting, crocheting, experimenting with different materials, and sometimes turning something unexpected into something completely new.
Creativity has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. It began when I was young and has followed me through the many different chapters of my life. Art has given me a way to express myself, challenge myself, connect with others, and, most importantly, bring a little joy into the world.
Where it began...
My love of creating began very early in life. My mother, Pearl, was the first person to put that “art bug” in me. We would doodle and draw together when I was young, and later she taught me to sew. She also taught me something that has stayed with me throughout my life—the joy of making something with your own hands and giving it to someone else.
In 1976, another very important person entered my artistic life. I was awarded a four-year art scholarship to the Nutley Art Center, where I studied with artist Vivian Noyes Fikus. She introduced me to drawing, painting, pastels, and other mediums, but she also encouraged my imagination. I remember spending time looking through the books, magazines, and pictures in her little library, searching for something that would spark an idea.
Those early experiences helped shape the artist and maker I would become.
